The winning team for the May tournament was the May Poles
The second tournament of the year was another great success although a few changes to the draw at the last minute including an injury suffered by Tony Giles during the frist game of the tournament had us calling in a couple of players placed on stand-by which got us off the hook.
It was decided to run this tournament without byes so a draw of four teams with ten players in each was worked out with each player playing five games for each of the three sessions for the duration of the weekend.
Eight new players joined our ranks which always makes life interesting for the selection committee. Scores that rolled in during the Saturday first session event saw the majority of games quite close with a number of them going right down to “The Wire” which had us all thinking that the end results could be a close one.
Saturday night’s social dinner event was well attended when 12 players rolled up for a sociable evening. As usual the Nambour RSL had a great choice of excellent meals. enjoyed by all.
As the Sunday morning session progressed it become quite evident that the May Poles based on their consistancy were going to be hard to beat. Even though the May Days were also performing well, the score they turned in with for the last session the day before proved to be their downfall; 714, 614 and 730 as against 732, 736 and 725 for the winning team. Well done to all members of the May Poles.
Next tournament will be at the Tallebudgera Leisure Centre on the Gold Coast
Lastly, for those wanting to promote the event at their club level an A4 poster is available for downloading which can be placed on their notice boards. Also, Stanthorpe is back on the agenda for the last tournament of the year so start planning for that now is it will be another great weekend.
See you all in a few weeks time.
