Our last tournament of the year certainly finished on a terrific note and it augers well for next year. 57 players in total the extra seven sharing spots with players who could only play for one day. As it so happens there were also seven new players who joined our ranks and from all accounts they all enjoyed our format and the socialising aspects of our tournament. We look forward to seeing them back again for some of our 2019 tournaments.
It was great to test out the new rubber mats and lighting conditions and the improvements certainly lived up to our expectations. The mats proved to be totally slip-proof and also subdued any glare form the lights for better photography. The lights now positioned vertically instead of pointing downwards also eliminated any problems associated with high lobs. Well done Nambour!
As is the case with any new players it is always difficult to slot them into a competitive position. We do our best to find out their skill level and place them where we think they should be. Not always easy but most of the time we get it right.
5 teams with 10 players in each was the order for the weekend with a bye introduced for each time during the course of the weekend. With 16 the number of games played for each participant the scores certainly indicated some close matches. At the close of the weekend however to difference between the first place and fifth placegetters was 451 although it was 180 points between first and fourth. The winning team finished up being the Rough Rugs with a total point score of 2327. Congratulations to them and all players who participated for a great weekend.
Have a great festive season and we will see you next year.
