The first tournament of 2021 saw an entry field of 56 players marching up to the excellent venue at Nambour – 4 teams of 14 players. Originally capped at 48 players – such was demand that we were able to increase to the entry of 56 and still meet COVID Safe Plans. Each player played 12 games during the weekend including the ever popular cross-over games with players on their Line, and against other players on their Line. Usually very close games in the head-to-head cross-overs!
Unfortunately, one of our ‘regulars’ – Chad Anderson – retired injured during the very first game on court (suspected Achilles injury) – We obviously wish Chad a speedy recovery.
The tournament saw the teams of Trumpeters, Drummers, Cymbals and Glockenspiels vying for victory.
The winning team was the Drummers with 2926 points.
Second place went to the Trumpeters with 2878 points, closely followed by the Cymbals with 2860 points. In fourth place were the Glockenspiels with 2711 points.
The AGM was held during this Tournament – this saw the ‘retirement’ of our stalwart Secretary – John Ursem – after 12 years in this position!
For many of us, John has been the “face of BMAQ” for many years, and he (and Bev) still plan to continue playing the sport they both enjoy.
