Once again forty seems to be the magical number. Five teams with eight players in each set the ground work for another great weekend. It also allowed the organisers to introduce a bye for each team. A number of new players also joined our ranks for this event and it is great to see this influx of newcomers although it does occasionally test the committee in placing them on an equal, skill level with our regular players. After 5 years of absence we also welcomed Marion McNichol back into the throe. I didn’t take long for her to remember some of her classic shots.

At the end of the first day’s play it looked as if it was going to be a tustle between the Racers and the Russians although a high score brought home by the Hurry Ups made it a hard call for the next day’s event if they were gong to keep on improving.

As was the case last time we played at the Redlands PCYC a Barbecue was again on offer for the lunch break on both days. Something about a bun, sausage onions and sauce. They always taste yummy.

Sunday morning after tired limbs were loosened up for the final day’s play it quickly became obvious it was heading for a tight finish between the Russians and the Racers as the Hurry Ups didn’t fare too well with their Sunday morning games. For the last round of the day it was still hard to pick who was going to come home with the winning points until the last games were played. The final difference was 8 points with the Racers coming out in front. Great effort on their behalf and congratulations to all the teams who participated for a great weekend.

Final results for the weekend were 1st place The Racers with 1836 points, 2nd place The Russians with 1828 points, 3rd place The Hurry Ups with 1769 points, 4th place were the Rushings with 1700 points and 5th were the Runners with 1611 points.

See you all at Trinity Lutheran College on the 1st and 2nd of September.
