HOWZAT!
Just as in cricket – where a match can be won or lost by a few runs – so it was in this Masters’ badminton tournament.
The winning team ‘ran’ home by just two (2) points.
In fact, the team that finished third was only six (6) points behind that winning team!
We’ve not had final points scores this close for the top three teams in living memory!?!
Winning team:- Run-outs – 2221pts
LBWs – 2219pts
Caught Behinds – 2215pts
Clean Bowled – 2170pts
Stumped – 2008pts
It was raining outside on the Sunday – but rain did NOT stop play!
Neither did “bad light” – the installation of LED court side lighting makes this sporting arena an excellent venue for badminton.
The Tournament itself ran smoothly – albeit with the Committee having to find last minute Fill-in players after a couple of late withdrawals.
We ran with a FIVE team format with each team having a 3 hour BYE at some stage during the weekend sessions.
We also incorporated the ever popular cross-overs into this Tournament.
In order to allow for this – the player that you had just been pitched against for 3 games became your batting partner for the cross-over game. But the “runs” still counted for your team’s overall points score.
A couple of birthdays to celebrate over the weekend – Darren – celebrated during an evening meal at Chef Kim’s kitchen with all Tournament players invited (and probably a few of his other friends!)
Our BMAQ Secretary – John – also celebrated his birthday on Saturday – but this was back at his home in Stanthorpe following a recent hip operation – this has clean-bowled him for a couple of weeks – but, hoping for a speedy recovery!
Our next tournament is at Redlands/Capalaba PCYC – where, with six courts available, we will look to have some singles games incorporated for the first time in a BMAQ Masters Tournament. (Subject to expression of interest)
