World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on June 8th by the United Nations.

So the aptly named BMAQ “Oceans” tournament was held at Nambour on the 8th and 9th June.

With 32 player positions, the tournament had 4 teams of 8 players.

Each 2 day player played 9 games Saturday, and 6 games Sunday, and that included 3 round robin games for every players line. The one day players played 9 games on Saturday or 6 games on Sunday.

The Atlantic (Ocean) team won with 2035 points. Each player in this team scored equal to or more than 406 points which averages out 27 points per game or more. This includes the 1-day players on the calculation of the overall matches. The standout player for this team was Basil Paul with the highest 2 day player score of the tournament with 451 points, winning 12 out of his 15 games and with perfect x-overs of 93. Also noteworthy was Lindsay Palliser with a perfect 1 day score on Sunday of 186 thus winning all his 6 games including perfect x-overs.

Second were the Pacific (Ocean) team with 1970 points. Barrie Dege made a big contribution with 444 points and winning 12 games. Tam Pantelis was the team’s 2nd highest point scorer on 437 points.

Third were the Southern (Ocean) team with 1918 points. The leading 2 day point scorer for this team was Viv Ganesh with 448 points which secured the team result. Taek Byeon had a perfect 1 day score on Sunday of 186 thus winning all her 6 games including perfect x-overs.

Fourth and just short by 4 points on 1914 were the Indian (Ocean) team.  Tristan Rogers and Craig Boustead made solid contributions for this team.
