30 entries, five teams of 6 … Couldn’t wish for a better result. Not often we finish up with a workable number of entries. It was also 10 more than the last time we played in Toowoomba.
Everything sseemed right until I received notification that 4 players had to pull out because of injury and unforeseen circumstances. A few frantic phone calls the day before the tournament resulted in 3 replacements with the 4th position going to be played by fill ins.
The hall at St Ursula turned out be very suitable for our actvity. It boasted four courts with abundant space surrounding each one. The wooden floor I thought was good to play on although some players found it a bit glary and slippery. The venue also provided us with adequate shower facilites for both the men and women and the kitchen was divine.
With the inclusion of quite a few unknown players and the fact that we had to rely on a few fill ins including one for myself on the saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions, the result at the end of the Sunday’s play saw four temas within 44 points of each other.
Saturday evening saw 20 odd players socialising at our normal dinner event at the Toowoomba Sports Club. A great night was had by all of those who made the effort to attend.
Results for the weekend were as follows:
1st: The “Sundries” team with 1735 points
2nd: The”Thick Edges’ team with 1647 points
3rd: The “Bowled” team with 1622 points
4th: The “Out for a Duck” team with 1616 points
5th: The “Caught in the Slips” team with 1603 points
I am sure those who took part in our tournament had a great time and thanks must go to Russell Stewart for the preparation of the hall, encouraging the local players to attend and finding a few extra players at a moments notice. Thank you Russell from the committee.
See you all at the Bracken Ridge State High School on the 10th and 11th of October.
