The Stanthorpe National Parks tournament was held on the 2nd and 3rd October 2021. The last time BMAQ organised a tournament at this venue, we had 12 players. Who would have thought we would have 31 players this time round despite challenges looking for accommodation due to the Queen’s birthday long weekend. Was it a great idea to hold a tournament on a long weekend far far away?. Hmmnn….
Special mention to Sammie Nyiha who travelled at least 6 hours from Bundaberg just to be a part of this successful tournament. Thank you to John Ursem for being our official photographer as always. If there is anyone else who would like to take some action shots, we would be keen to have you as our BMAQ photographer as well. Do let the committee know your interest.
We welcome a new player, Barrie Dege and are glad to have Rajesh Mehta fully recovered from his recent knee injury at the previous tournament.
It is amazing everyone was early for this tournament. With temperatures hovering between 14-20 degrees, the cooler climate is perfect not just for badminton, but for wine and dine.
Thank you to Bev and John Ursem, as well as Sumit Puri for organising a wine tour for some of our players. Obviously being in the granite belt region, players appreciated being shown the various vineyards and local produce. Say cheese…
Congratulations to the Girraween team led by Sumit for winning this tournament. All four teams were pretty close at the end of the first day of tournament. Gus clashed with Nang Nguyen and broke his favourite APACS featherweight55 -the world’s lightest racquet and still managed to keep the winning team afloat.
Players had a total of 12 games played to 31 points and 6 cross-overs played to 21 points. Congratulations to Raj Gupta on being the highest scorer. Everyone came out as a winner and there were prizes given to one and all.
The next tournament will be held in Nambour on 20-21 November 2021. On behalf of the BMAQ committee, we thank you for the support towards this successful tournament and future tournaments to come.
