Despite a slow start with the nomination receipts, the June tournament managed a gathering of 35 players divided into 5 teams with 7 players in each team.

It was good to see a few new faces, Mark Wibaux, Rick Hawksley, Chris Venter and Carol Dickson who was a visitor from New Zealand. All proved themselves to be worthy opponents. We look forward to seeing more of them with future events.

Unfortunately Shane English on the Saturday pulled a muscle and much to his annoyance was out for the rest of the tournament games. We all hope he has a speedy recovery.

Those that had some energy left after the day’s event made their way to the Nambour RSL for dinner and some light entertainment. The company and the food was great and the whole setting made for quite a relaxing evening. Sunday saw another day of closely fought matches with the gap between the competing teams narrowing quite considerably and it wasn’t until the last game was played that we discovered that the team that was in front for most of the weekend got pipped at the post by the “Ancients” who had a terrific last round.

The tournament was again played in honour of Liam O’Kane and the winning team with a total score of 1594, were the recipients of the Memorial Shield.

As a reminder and in an endeavour to increase our numbers for each tournament I ask you all to make mention of our tournaments to your fellow badminton buddies who may not be aware of our events. By encouraging them to come along and have a go it could make all the difference to the continuation of our events as hall hire is becoming a problem.

See you at Nambour!
